Topic: Web Client Software Factory
Although the word 'factory' may conjure up images of a fill-in-the-form-spit-out-an-application code generator, the Web Client Software Factory is far from an automated "one size fits all" software wizard. The Patterns and Practices Group at Microsoft has produced an impressive collection of components, templates, designers, and instruction, including a reference implementation, which enables architects and teams of developers to design and create complex web applications in a modular fashion. In the first half of this talk, we'll discuss the nature of the software factory, its components and concepts, and how it can be used to create web applications. In the second half we'll demonstrate the factory's use by building a simple web application.
Speaker: Ken Baum
Ken Baum has been developing software for the Windows platform for over 15 years, first in C++ and most recently using C# and the .NET platform. He has held positions at every level, from programmer to designer to team lead to manager down to the director level. Currently he is a technical manager at a small interactive agency in Dayton building web applications in .NET. He has a master's degree in Computer Science but begs you not to hold that against him. He loves Shakespeare, Bach, and penguins. His life goal is to own an emperor penguin. He was penguin before penguin was cool.
